  • Mission

    The Friends of the Clifton M. Miller Library (FoML) support and advocate for the Library in order to stimulate and enrich the intellectual life of Washington College and its surrounding community.  In this capacity, the Friends seek to accomplish the following:

    • Acquaint the greater community with the Library and its resources
    • Supplement the Library's resources
    • Host and coordinate library-related events and programs
    • Develop the Library's Maryland Collection
    • Develop a full collection of Sophie Kerr's works

  • Activities

    • Sponsor the Friends of Miller Library Research Fellowship (please see description of fellowship further below)
    • Organize semiannual book sales
    • Maintain a webpage
    • Sponsor annual literary event with library reading and reception
    • Enhance special collections
    • Publish a newsletter

  • Benefits of Membership

    • Borrowing privileges. Members may borrow up to 4 books concurrently. Loan period is 3 weeks per book.
    • Friends Newsletter
    • Invitations to special events hosted or co-hosted by the Friends
    • Access to all resources while in Miller Library

  • Membership Information (annual membership begins on July 1st and runs through June 30th)

    • Friend Level:           $30.00 (Book borrowing)
    • Contributer Level:   $100.00 (Book borrowing + databases + interlibrary loan)
    • Patron Level:         $300.00 (Book borrowing + databases + interlibrary loan + special book plate)

  • Information on the Friends of Miller Library Research Fellowship

    • $1000 Fellowship
    • Supports a WC undergraduate engaged in research activities using Miller Library resources to investigate and develop an independent research project that requires analytical thinking and encourages effective communication of ideas
    • Includes $250 stipend to both faculty mentor and library consultant
    • Final work shall be worthy of submission for publication in a journal or magazine, for presentation at a conference, or serve as the basis for the senior capstone experience
    • Completed project will also be presented at a program for the Friends of Miller Library
    • Sophomores and juniors may apply for consideration in the Spring semester
